Backup →
Since there’s no such thing as “too much backup,” here’s a brief look at Backup.
I buy that, but a backup is only as good as it’s restore. Test restoring from your backup or it’s worthless!

Some for fun programming projects
It’s been a long time since I’ve done any programming just for fun. I’ve done quite a bit for school, between OS Scripting, two or three web programming classes, Java out the you-know-what… etc. I actually used to enjoy programming though, and so I wanted to get back to that.
I’ve recently published a couple of projects on github: https://github.com/bwoodruff They...

I’m all for cutting back on non-essentials. The answer is not to empty your toolbox down to just a hammer and a screwdriver though.

“I do everything on a relatively low-powered MacBook. Is this constraining? A little bit. But I think it goes to show that you don’t need the fanciest Mac or the largest screen to get the job done.”
Sure, that’s true, but why intentionally constrain yourself? I’d rather have a little headroom than be continually bumping my head on the roof.
My latest experience at the Applecrack Dealer
I went to the Apple store at Eastview Mall the other day to purchase an iPhone 4.
I was very disapointed with regards to my accessory purchase. I was under the impression that there were free cases available for the iPhone 4 due to the reception (“antennagate”) issues. When I arrived at the store I was told that this program ended 2 days previous and even though I’ve purchased...

My (current) frustration with TWBC
UPDATE: Awesome news. Vicky just called back. Issues with TWC bill are supposedly fixed. We’ll see on the next bill.
I have Time Warner Business Class service. The Teleworker package, to be specific. A few months ago I emailed my account rep, Neil, asking if I could have another static IP address added for $10/month. He very happily obliged, confirming that the price was $10 and also...
Your PasswordCard →
minimalmac:
A PasswordCard is a credit card-sized card you keep in your wallet, which lets you pick very secure passwords for all your websites, without having to remember them! You just keep them with you, and even if your wallet does get stolen, the thief will still not know your actual passwords.
Such a wonderful, analog solution to a common digital problem. I’m a dedicated 1Password guy...

Snippet from PBS GT on the iPad
I love how everyone who DOESN’T own an iPad is saying don’t buy one, it’s useless. lol It is much cheaper than a laptop (granted, it doesn’t have the same storage space and is somewhat limited, currently, on multitasking). I don’t know how you can say to buy or not to buy something when you have no idea what the person on the other end’s usage patterns are,...

Lifehacker review of Air Video for iPad →
My notes: It does not currently work with the video out adaptor for the iPad (VGA). Also if you have multiple TV shows (a la from iTunes) it doesn’t break down the episodes by show. And it doesn’t do iTunes DRM but they are very upfront about that. The server gui could use some love. Otherwise an awesome app. Works great over the Internet (only tested wifi not 3G). Much better than...

When it snows, IT SNOWS.
Good thing I left an hour early for class.
I live 5 minutes away. Could have walked quicker.
Not that this is unexpected, but it’s sudden. About time though.

Perspective
Think you have it rough? Just read an Out of Office reply to our newsletter that got send out today at work.
I will be out of the office, mourning the loss of our three baby daughters. Our family will be holding a funeral service on 11/21/09.
Think about that. I so wanted to reply to the guy, but there is nothing I can say that will bring his daughters back, and I’m sure the last thing he...

Oh, did I mention that I crossed paths with Satan today? Yea, he was walking past the Innovation Center towards GCCIS.
If the path you are on always leads you straight into a brick wall, you may want to consider changing your path rather than trying to change the wall.

Trying a clean slate in more ways than one. Reformatted the BlackBook and it’s running much better. *fingers crossed* Exciting 1Password news coming tomorrow (tonight if you look in the right spot)! Getting up early tomorrow to wrestle the inbox and finish homework.

The number of words that I use is not nearly as important as getting my point across
Did you want me to prove that I can be long winded or did you want me to prove a point? Maybe you like the scenic route, but I prefer to save gas.

Blogging
So I started using Tumblr. It integrates with Facebook and Twitter (woot), but now I need to figure out what I want to do with my “real” (and really outdated) blog/website. Do I pull the tumblr content into Wordpress, or vise versa? Or forget about Wordpress altogether and redirect traffic here? I like Wordpress for posts that have some meat to them, and Tumblr for… updating my...

Wish I had a picture!
I stepped outside for some fresh (very cool!) air and my buddy Skylar was outside. Apparently I was being observed and it was “the cutest thing ever” when I was staring off into space and Skylar was sitting next to me looking up at me.
I get the feeling it would have been a very artsy photo with Rochester all lit up at night as the backdrop.
